Job description

As a Laboratory Manager you will work on site as the leader of the MicrosensDx R&D team, initially to devise, plan and execute experiments to further develop our RapiPREP nucleic acid extraction product range, and also to drive prospective product developments.  In addition to working in the laboratory and leading a team of two laboratory scientists, you will be responsible for the lab strategy, equipment and documentation and fostering a ‘we can’ environment so that you, your team and MicrosensDx can succeed.  You will also lead up-scaling of R&D work to manufacturing.

The role requires a track-record of leadership as well as competence in the use of molecular biology related techniques. Experience in immunology is advantageous.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Shape, plan, execute, contribute and evaluate ideas into the development process (initially for nucleic acid purification technology and for a sepsis test development).
  • Devise and communicate experimental goals, methods, results and conclusions through written reports and oral presentations.
  • Own and maintain clear and complete records of laboratory procedures and results.
  • Understand and comply with all elements of the MicrosensDx Quality System outlined for the position.
  • Contribute to improved ongoing improvement and enhancement of quality and product development processes.
  • Lead the lab scientist team in the development of new technologies from concept right through to scale up and manufacture and lead the development of SOP's and documentation (lab-books) to support this.
  • Be a full member of the MicrosensDx leadership team.
  • Work as a cross functional member of the wider MicrosensDx team, including leading operational activities in relation to all quality processes and procedures.
  • A willingness and flexibility to drive and respond to new priorities including prospective R&D product development, and broader activities as required to fulfil business objectives.
  • Operates as a trusted leader across the business and with collaborators and customers - in addition to two Lab Scientist direct reports key stakeholders for this role include: CEO, COO (to whom this role reports), Commercial Manager, Office Manager, Facilities and Logistics Manager, QA Designee and Financial Director.

Work Hours and Benefits

You will be located at our Cambridge Science Park HQ and will be expected to be present there. On occasion there will be travel to visit collaborators. The working week is professional hours with 37.5 hours contractual work. Competitive benefits include BUPA Cashplan and a pension contribution. In addition to public holidays and 25 days paid leave you will also have shut-down time (3 days) over Christmas. A competitive salary will be offered which depends on your experience.

 

Qualifications and experience required

Leadership or team management experience.

Candidates should hold a BSc as a minimum in a related discipline including Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology. Immunology experience is advantageous.

Candidates with prior experience of working in a related field and be familiar with GLP and/or GMP manufacturing and or quality environments will be an advantage.
